FAQs

Do I have to be an artist to join a trip?

Everyone is welcome. All of our workshops are all-levels, meaning we can accommodate total beginners to advanced level. Craft has a way of brining people together; our guests always find a common thread, even with different experience levels.

Why should I go on a Thread Caravan trip?

Thread Caravan trips provide an intimate and connected form of travel. In just a week's time, we introduce you directly to local makers whom you'll get to work with to learn a traditional craft.

These trips are great for people who may already have an artistic hobby and want to take it to the next level, for people who want to learn a new skill, or for people who just want to travel in a more intentional and connected way.

Who goes on a Thread Caravan trip?

Our trips attract open-minded travelers who are interested in learning in a multi-cultural setting.

Thread Caravan trips are open to anyone 18 years or older.

You don't have to be an artist to come on the trips! We connect with the local artisans in a way that accommodates both beginners and experienced artist travelers.

Our trips are open to single travelers and groups. Don't worry about traveling with a friend - you will likely become friends with the other travelers on the trip you join.

How many people are on each trip?

Each trip has 4 - 12 people. We like to keep it small so everyone has the opportunity to really get to know each other.

When will you announce more trips?

We always announce our trips to our email newsletter first, and then via our Instagram.

Will I have free time During the trip?

Each trip is a little different. Generally, our trip itineraries include full days of craft-focused activities, and free time or optional activities in the late afternoons.

Guests are always allowed to opt out of any programing, in favor of solo time or rest as needed.

Are the trips women-only?

Everyone is welcome, regardless of gender identity.

How do payments work?

A non-refundable deposit is required in order to secure your space on the trip. The remaining payment is due at your convenience, at least two months prior to the trip. Our team will send a payment reminder 2 months before it is due.

What’s Included in the Trip Cost?

This also varies slightly with each trip. Typically, cost includes everything once you arrive in the country except alcohol and extra spending money. Costing always includes accommodation, payment to local artisans and guides, in-country transportation and most meals. Make sure to read the information for the trip you're booking so you know exactly what's included and what's not.

What’s Not Included in the Trip Cost?

Airfare, travel insurance, alcohol, extra spending money for free-time activities and shopping.

What If I Don’t Want to Purchase Travel Insurance?

We require all guests to purchase travel insurance to cover cases of theft, injury, illness or last minute trip cancellation.

As a reminder, Thread Caravan is not liable in the case of theft, injury or illness but we would absolutely provide all necessary help and guidance should any unexpected problems arise.

Please contact us if you need advice about which plan to book.

Will I Need a Travel VISA?

Whether or not you need a Visa will depend on your home country and the country we're visiting. Please make sure to enquire with the embassy beforehand, and please be in touch if you require any support from our team.
