Artisan Experiences: This trip includes a multi-day ceramics course (complete with building, glazing and firing pieces), led by an 83 year old master female ceramicist. It also includes workshops in rag rug making in Sefrou, and basket or rug weaving in Agdz. We’ll also explore the city’s medinas, connecting with both artisans and designers.
In-Country Transportation: We’ll be taking a mix of private shuttles and taxis with enough space to cart our group of 8 around, plus extra luggage full of textile purchases. ;)
Most Meals: All breakfasts will be included. Many lunches and dinners will be included as well, particularly on days in which we have activities as a group. We’ll have a few “free” days when we’re in cities like Fes and Marrakech, in which meals are not scheduled or included, to give flexibility for your own indulgences and plans.
Accommodation: Our accommodation will vary greatly during this trip: from home stays in a rural Rif mountain town, to a 17th century earth-built kasbah in the a desert oasis, to boutique design riads in Fes and Marrakech. Rooms will usually be shared; however, there are some instances in which there will be private rooms. A private room option is not available for the entirety of the trip.
Support: Thread Caravan founder Caitlin Ahern will guide this experience in partnership with local guides and hosts. She will be available in the months leading up to the trip to help you prepare.
Carbon Emissions Offset: We’ve partnered with Trees for the Future to plant 50 tress on your behalf in order to offset the carbon emissions of your travel to Morocco. If you’d like to plant additional trees to offset carbon emissions, there is an option for that at check out.
Alcoholic Drinks: Thread Caravan does not cover the cost of alcoholic beverages (and they will not always be available in Morocco).
Airfare: This trip will begin in Fez and end in Marrakech. You’ll need to arrange your transportation to and from the two cities. We can only arrange your transportation to and from airports, bus and train stations in those specific cities.
Personal Travel Insurance: Personal travel insurance is required for this trip. Please find an insurance that covers medical emergencies, theft, and trip cancellations.
