Join us and Bricolage Press for a day of ecoprinting in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. Ecoprinting is the process of compressing flowers and plant materials onto fabric to extract their natural pigments through a unique dye process.
This one day ecoprinting workshop will include a visit to the campo to forage local flora, as well as detailed instruction about natural pigments, plant dye extractions and the ecoprinting process. We will work in the home studio of our weaving workshop partners, also experts in natural dye processes, using the florals that are in-season during the time of the workshop. In late October, we can expect to find cempasuchil (marigold), pericone, eucalyptus and much more.
This workshop includes:
Transportation from a central point in Oaxaca City to Teotitlan del Valle, and back
Visit to the campo for a guided foraging experience (with instruction of how to forage respectfully)
Materials: In addition to the plants we forage in the morning, we will provide a selection of flowers for guests to print with. We will also provide each guest with a raw silk rebozo. *Please feel free to bring additional clothing or fabrics (items must be made of natural materials, such as silk, wool, cotton or linen, or the dye will not adhere to them).
Homemade lunch in the studio of our weaving partners. *We can accommodate dietary restrictions, with a 2 week notice.
Guidance from Bricolage Press, Thread Caravan and local dyeing instructors.
Opportunity to purchase woven goods directly from our artisans partners.
